Oregon Football Dominates Washington, Again
The Ducks continued their winning streak to 11 games with their win over rival, Washington. The win confirmed the longest streak in history by either team of the series as No.9 Oregon defeated the Huskies 45-20 in Autzen Stadium, Saturday.
The Story: Oregon came out as the dominant force in the first half as Royce Freeman ran for three touchdowns building a 26-8 halftime lead. The Huskies stayed close in the first quarter with two field goals at 7-6 before the Ducks took over in the second. By the third, Oregon found themselves up 35-6, making it nearly impossible for their opponents to make a comeback. Overall, Washington was unable to slow down Oregon’s rushing attack as they ran for 554 yards for the game, 169 earned by Freeman. The UO defense limited UW to only 317 yards of total offense and 133 rushing yards.
Outliers: Freeman exceeded 100 yards for the second week in row. The true freshman finished with 29 carries for four touchdowns. Marcus Mariota’s 336 passing yards were a season high, propelling him past 8,000 passing yards for his career. He now has 8,229 career passing yards. Pharaoh Brown had a career long 66-yard reception, leading the Ducks with 99 receiving yards. Christen French had a major forced fumble in the second and career season-high of two sacks.
In and Outs: The victory will be Oregon’s 11th straight time defeating Washington by 17 points or more as they improve to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference. Washington falls to 5-2 and 1-2 in conference competition. This will also be the 101st consecutive time Oregon had a sellout game; 57, 858 fans were in attendance.
Star Specials: The Ducks brought out the “old school” uniforms against Washington, to celebrate the return of Kenny Wheaton, otherwise known as “The Pick”, referring to Wheaton’s 97-yard interception against Washington in 1994. Before the game, Wheaton road the motorcycle across the field with the Duck; a long time tradition for Oregon.
Coming Up: The Ducks hit the road to take on the California Bears on Friday night at 7:15 PT, broadcasted by FOX Sports 1.
