Juliet loses her Romo, Cowboys at a loss

Okay, so there hasn’t been any “untimely deaths” with the Cowboys, but their star-crossed team and its star-crossed QB will be parting ways for at least eight weeks as Tony Romo recovers from a broken left collarbone per ESPN report. The Dallas Cowboys placed their starting quarterback on injured reserve/designated to return list Tuesday after Romo took the hard blow in their 20-10 win against the Eagles. The QB will be eligible to return week 11 against the Miami Dolphins. Dallas reports that there is no plan for Romo to have surgery on his collarbone.

Brandon Weeden will step into Romo’s place in his absence and the team looks to audition Josh Johnson, Matt Flynn, Mclead Bethel-Thompson and Christian Ponder. The last time Weeden played was in 2014 when he was forced into action against the Redskins, giving a solid performance to seal the win for the Cowboys in overtime. Weeden was 7 for 7 from the third quarter on after taking over for Romo against the Eagles. Nevertheless, the former first-round pick to the Cleveland Browns is 5-16 as a starter.

This will be the second major injury this season the team has faced with Dez Bryant out dealing with injury. However, it’s not the first time America’s team has lost its leader to the injury. Romo injured the exact same collarbone back in 2010 when Michael Boley left him all but destroyed on a hit. However, that year Romo was unable to return for the rest of the season.

Up Next: The Cowboys are currently ranked first in their division with match ups against the Falcons, Saints, and Patriots at home in Week 5 before their Week 6 bye. After that, Dallas gets the Giants, host the Seahawks and Eagles at home, and then travel to Tampa to face off the Buccaneers in Week 10.

This Romo lovesick romance is as close as it gets to a Shakespearean heartbreak for Dallas. But even with the injury, in the worst case scenario Dallas could do as well as 5-4 in the upcoming weeks while still keep their hopes alive for a strong playoff run when Romo comes back in Week 11.
